It’s fall ya’ll! That’s how we welcome the season down here in the southeast. One of my favorite things to do this time of year after work is to plop myself down in a rocker on our wrap around porch with a glass of wine and listen to the birds sing, watch the squirrels chase each other around the trees, and smell the delicious aroma from the dinner my husband is cooking. Ok, that last part is a dream, but the rest of it is real. This ‘me time’ gives me a chance to look around and think about how I can decorate my porch for the fall.
My porch boards are Inteplast Building Products variegated porch in Burnished Maple, which has naturally-colored streaking and a subtle wood grain, and easily works with any décor or style. Inteplast’s porch products also offer unmatched weather resistance and long-term performance. Just because your porch is an outdoor space doesn’t mean it can’t offer the same style you have on the inside of your house. Here are some my favorite ways to add some autumn spice to your porch.
Pumpkins and Gourds, oh my! Of course pumpkins and gourds aren’t just for Halloween, and they all don’t have to be orange either. Use a combination of pumpkin varieties in white, orange, tan, and even blue, in a variety of sizes, and place them in arrangements around your porch or down the porch steps for fall curb appeal. You can even get really creative with how you decorate your pumpkin, check out this post from livingly for ideas on what to do with yours.
Mums the word. You see them in a ton of colors at your local nursery or big box store, those beautiful mounded chrysanthemum flowers just beckoning for you to scoop some up and take them home. Mums are synonymous with fall and can be the star of your autumn porch. To double up on the fall décor plant yours in a hollowed out pumpkin like this one from CircaDee.
Add some swag. Make your porch swing or rocking chairs cozy, comfy hangout spots throughout the season. I like to add fun, fresh seat cushions on my rocking chairs and cover the porch swing with posh pillows and throws ready to toss over your shoulders if there’s a chill in the air.

Just because the temps are getting a little cooler doesn’t mean you have to abandon your outdoor living until spring. Add some fall color and décor to create an inviting space you’ll want to enjoy well into the season. Of course, the perfect foundation for front porch curb appeal is a great porch to begin with.
