Finally it looks as if spring is here to stay, and summer isn’t far behind. And we are so ready for all the things that come along with these seasons: warmer temps, longer daylight hours, and of course, days and nights in the open air or surrounded by sun—which has us dreaming of how and where we’ll spend the time. Here are some inspiring places for amazing warm-weather views.
Front Porch Sitting
Front porches were once the hub of social activity between friends and neighbors. They still serve that purpose, but they do so much more. They actually extend your living space, add architectural drama to your house, and give you a front row seat to the after-dinner star show. With such a significant role the porch plays for warm-weather sitting, dress up the ceiling and soffits with Inteplast’s low-maintenance tongue-and-grove beadboard for a clean, finished look.
Pool House Frolicking
Lounge by the pool with a book in hand. Listen to the laughter of kids splashing around. Watch the sun dance on the water through large glass windows. Do all of this without the worry of moisture rotting and mildewing your trim products. Unlike wood trim, our products won’t rot, split, crack, or absorb water, and are resistant to termites and other pests. So you can spend more time relaxing and less time maintaining.
You don’t have to literally be outdoors to enjoy the outdoors. Sunrooms bridge the gap between nature and your interior spaces. From the openness to the natural light, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the warm months in a sunroom. The aesthetic value of Inteplast Building Products window and ceiling moulding adds depth and drama by framing picturesque views, transforming your sunroom into an inviting nook you’ll never want to leave.
Without a doubt, there may be no better way to unwind and unplug than to sit in front of a white sandy beach and gently rolling surf and let the hustle and bustle of life disappear with each wave. Being near the water can actually trigger a meditative state. And no one wants to interrupt that calm feeling by maintaining exterior trim on a pier house. If you’re looking for a trim product that can withstand the harsh elements of salt air and sun, Inteplast’s decorative exterior trim adds one-of-a-kind style to any exterior with all the workability and beauty of real wood without the maintenance headaches of real wood.
Sometimes it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference in our homes, like replacing or updating door and window frames. They’re probably not what first comes to mind when you think about adding value to your home and getting greater enjoyability from each room, but they can have a dramatic effect as a fairly inexpensive remodel project. Here are some reasons you might want to update your door and window frames.
Let’s face it; with warmer weather on the way there are many more enjoyable ways to spend your time than repairing and maintaining rotting wood trim. Inteplast’s PVC window and door trim products won’t rot, split, crack, splinter, or absorb moisture. They’re also resistant to termites and other pests. Because they’re moisture-resistant, Inteplast’s products are perfect for kitchen and bathroom applications.
Inteplast’s interior window and door moulding comes in a variety of colors and profiles to match any interior style. You can make dramatic entrances to any room by matching ceiling, wall, and window moulding to your door and door frame. There are 14 colors to choose from including Crystal White, Ultra Maple, Espresso, and autumn. All exude sophistication and quality craftsmanship.
Frame a Picturesque view
Got a grand view of the outside world from every room in your house? You wouldn’t hang an old beat-up frame on a masterpiece would you? The aesthetic value of Inteplast Building Products Window Moulding goes beyond softening transitions and hiding door jamb seams. It adds depth and drama to every room by framing picturesque views and playing off natural light.
Because Inteplast’s window moulding products are lightweight, prefinished, and use the same tools as traditional lumber products, you can DIY without calling in the pros. The products arrive ready to install: no priming, painting, staining or sanding needed. Just measure, cut, and install. The light weight makes it easier to install–essentially a one-person project. They are also slightly flexible, so they’re the perfect solution for walls that aren’t completely true. Inteplast’s window and door trim products are available at Lowe’s and other select dealers.
When we think of curb appeal, we most likely think of beautiful flower gardens, neatly trimmed, emerald lawns, freshly painted siding, and a couple of white rockers swaying on the swept front porch. Of course, it’s all that and more. Adding architectural details to the curb-side of your house not only adds value if you were to list your home, but adds visual interest that makes your home stand out among all others. Here are some unique architectural elements using Inteplast Building Products Exterior Trim products that we bet you never considered.
Arches and Curves
Not just for interior doorways, arched and curved trim can make a huge aesthetic impact on the outside of your house too. Inteplast’s trim has all the visual appeal of wood, without the natural flaws, but it also has more design flexibility because of its heatability. You can create custom shapes and curves through an advanced heat-bending process for unlimited craftsman applications. In addition, IP’s embossing technology keeps the wood grain patterns intact during the heat bending process to maintain the authentic looking wood texture. Inteplast’s trim board can be shaped and bent to finish off curved decks and porches, archways, and circular or oval window surrounds.
Cornices and Columns
Once historical staples of home construction, cornices and columns are popular in modern designs as well. These architectural millwork products are not only for load bearing applications, but they’re often used for pure decoration. Jazzing up the eaves of a porch or overhang with Inteplast’s decorative, moisture-resistant millwork products you can create some low-maintenance drama with cornices, columns, and brackets in an economical way.
Apparently winter is the new spring, and I’m not complaining for a second. Hi all, it’s Martin here with you this week and these awesome warm temperatures have been keeping me busy outdoors working on projects that I’d normally put off until April—like replacing rotting wood trim on my workshop. When I first bought my house a couple of years ago, the first thing I did was upgrade all of the old wood trim on the exterior to Inteplast’s PVC trim products. I put off upgrading the workshop until now.
So, I know there are some die-hard wood enthusiasts out there who would consider it a sacrilege to use anything but traditional lumber trim products on their homes—or workshops—because I used to be one of them. But after years of scraping, puttying, repainting, or replacing, I decided I wanted to spend more time enjoying life than repairing stuff. And when I discovered that the beauty and workability of Inteplast Building Products matched, and beat, that of traditional wood products, I was a convert, and here’s why.
First and foremost, because they’re made of pure PVC, Inteplast’s trim products won’t rot, split, crack, splinter, or absorb water. They’re also resistant to termites and other destruction and annoying pests. All of this means you won’t have the maintenance headaches of real wood, so you get to enjoy your outdoor living and working spaces more often!
Of course, for a DIY freak like me, one of my main reasons for using Inteplast’s PVC trim is its workability. It installs just like real wood products using your standard woodworking tools. You can also create some one-of-a-kind architecture shapes and curves because Inteplast Building Products Trim is bendable, unlike natural wood. Of course that would require you to use some advanced heat-bending process tools, which, let’s face it, would be awesome.
The one thing you don’t have to give up is the beauty of real wood. Inteplast uses an embossing technology so the wood grain stays intact even after heat bending. And through the state-of-the-art Edge Seal Technology, the trim boards are fully sealed on all four sides for a smooth, dirt, and stain-free surface. The PVC trim products are also flame retardant, and their compliant with national building codes to prevent fire flame spread.
Inteplast Building Products Trim is available in two categories--Celuka and Freefoam—and is the perfect sustainable wood-alternative for window and door trim, and decorative millwork. Use them anywhere you want to add decorative curb appeal, or low-key places like a workshop that you just want to keep maintenance free.
Hope that answers any questions you’ve got about the benefits of PVC trim products. Enjoy this beautiful weather while it lasts. Harley’s already cooling off in the pond and it’s not even March. Thanks for reading.
Martin (and Harley)
Hi all, Martin here. For those of you who read my posts often, you know all about my 120 lb. rescue sidekick Harley. He’s a big shaggy loveable mutt, so I do everything I can to keep him cool and comfortable in the summer months. So when a newly opened local park asked me if I’d build them a water station for dogs visiting the park, of course I said yes. Since it’ll be sitting out in the open, obviously I went with Inteplast Building Products PVC trim and planking which is moisture resistant so the park grounds keepers don’t have to worry about rotting, splitting, cracking, or mold and mildew.
I’m gonna warn you, this project may not be for the beginning DIYer. There is some knowledge and know-how that may require some extra skill notching and miter cutting, but don’t let that scare you off. The station I made for the park won’t contain food, but I went ahead and made it a storage bin as well so they can keep extra bowls or bowl cleaning supplies in it. If you’re making this for your home, the extra storage is good for not only food, but leashes, dog bags, etc. So, let’s get started.
Materials you'll need:
Have you ever driven or walked by a house and just drooled over its amazing curb appeal? You know the one I’m talking about with the perfect lush landscape, the trendiest paint color, the amazing architectural details, and the brightly brimming flower boxes. Only to get back to your own house and curse it for not measuring up. Well don’t punish your house (or yourself), give it an exterior facelift of enviable proportions with Inteplast Building Products PVC Trim and Moulding.
As a DIYer to the fullest extent of the definition, I’ve taken the exterior of my own house from plain Jane to Cinderella. I rolled up my sleeves, grabbed a ladder, a drill, a nail gun -- just your standard woodworking tools -- and added PVC window and door surrounds, beadboard soffits, corner boards and millwork, brackets, and lattice. Of course you don’t have to go all out, and certainly not all at once. Just by replacing simple window casings and plain brackets with prefinished ornamental trim and moulding profiles and decorative cornices is one of the easiest and less expensive approaches to add impact to your curb appeal.
Inteplast Building Products has a variety of classic and modern trim options to help you add pizazz to your exterior. You can choose from product profiles like trim sheets, beadboard, corner board, starter board, and J-channel. Inteplast’s trim products won’t rot, split, crack, or absorb water, and are resistant to termites and other pests. And unlike wood trim, Inteplast Building Products Trim is bendable to create a variety of unique architectural shapes. Check out these ideas for inspiration from Inteplast’s online trim gallery. You can find Inteplast’s prefinished decorative moulding and trim at many of your local Home Depot stores. You can also check Inteplast’s Where to Buy page to find a dealer or retailer near you. For tips on installing Inteplast’s PVC moulding and trim, check out this how to video.
In addition to giving your house a PVC trim makeover around windows, doors, and rooflines, you can make other updates like adding shutters, window boxes, and new porch railings, all minor improvements that can give you significant results.
See how easy it is for you to create that enviable house in the neighborhood with the perfect curb appeal. And it’s a project that’s doable for most DIYers. Just plan your project, do your shopping, gather your tools, and then get ready to impress the neighborhood. I’m Andrea, thanks for reading!
There is no other time of the year that inspires me to spruce up the exterior of my house than spring. And here are limitless, inexpensive things you can do that can dramatically change your home’s curb appeal. You don’t have to be considering putting your house on the market to do these small improvements. No different than changing your bedroom comforter to a crisp white in Spring to give your attitude a boost, adding curb appeal makes your house inviting to visitors, and creates a pleasing, uplifting space for you and your family. Here are some updates to consider for your own curb appeal.
When my kids were young and still at home, one of our favorite springtime activities to do together was taking a trip to our local nursery and picking out flowers and plants to spruce up the front yard. Small landscaping projects like this are a great way to showcase your yard’s best features and hide its not-so-good ones. To keep your yard looking great all the way through the fall, plant a combination of plants that flower throughout the seasons so you’ll always have something blooming.
Obviously it’s out of most of our budgets to change the exterior color of our houses every spring to fit our mood, but if you’ve got peeling or chipped paint, now is a good time to repaint and boost your curb appeal all at once. Check out the spring and summer paint color pallets at your local paint or home improvement store to get some ideas on color schemes. Whether you’re into classic, historic, or bright colors, you’ll be amazed at the significant difference a change of color can make.
Think about how much of an aesthetic impact moulding and trim can add to the interior of your house, and multiply that impact by ten for the exterior of your house. Inteplast Building Products has a broad range of PVC millwork trim products that includes base trim, crown molding, door jambs, window casings, corner board, starter board, J-channel and window surrounds, all with the visual appeal of wood without the natural flaws. All of their millwork products give you design flexibility to create custom architectural elements like arches and curves. And because they are pure PVC inside and out, you don’t have to worry about rot, warp, splintering, or cracking.
Don’t forget about the small stuff like brightly colored flower pots, outside cushions for your patio furniture or rocking chairs, and rugs for your front porch. Bright pops of color will tie the whole scene together and give passersby a curb to envy. All of the home improvement stores have sales on everything to make your outdoor area more beautiful, check out the Home Depot, Lowe’s and Menards websites for inspiration.
You are now free to sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of your spring and summer!
